It’s 2am in the morning,
Yes, if you are wide awake now, you would have already seen the mistake I’ve made. So go figure ^^.

However though, this post won’t be filled with pictures and such, I guess I have to write a wall of text this time round.

I’ve received an email from a friend of mine and it’s about, “15 ways to perk up your life and make 2010 your best year ever”

1. KEEP A DIARY – BUT WRITE ONLY ONE SENTENCE A DAY

A diary is a daunting commitment, requiring you to set aside part of your day – every day – to entrust your innermost thoughts to paper.

But what about a diary that is not a chore at all? One that is over almost before it has begun?

This is the one-sentence diary, a simple way to reflect on the current state of your life. It can record a single major event, an insight, a plan.

Or if you open the diary and your mind is a blank, you can just write: ‘My mind is a blank,’ and snap it shut.

More likely, you will find that the removal of the obligation to write reams will allow you the freedom to say something interesting.

2. GET UP EARLIER

It is generally agreed that six to eight hours of sleep a day is about right; let’s call it seven on average. But which seven?

If you go to bed at midnight and rise at 7am, you’ll have just enough time to get showered, dressed and so on before leaving the house. But what about going to bed earlier and getting up earlier? A bedtime at 10.30pm means rising at 5.30am. This gives you an appreciable amount of time to yourself that is not filled with TV, alcohol and computers.

At 5.30am the world is very still. You can watch the sun rise, go for a walk, read a chapter of a book – or check on your winter lettuce. When the working day starts, you will feel calm, prepared and energised.

3. WRITE A LETTER TO YOUR FUTURE SELF

Dear Future Self,

I sit here today feeling troubled. I have problems at work, the children are a constant source of worry, and I’m fat, unfit and getting older by the minute. Will you always be dominated by nagging worries, dissatisfied, unhappy with your appearance, your relationships and your career? Get your finger out! I’m relying on you.

Yours sincerely, Your Past Self. That’s one way of doing it.

The best letter to your future self crystallises your world view at a particular point. When you re-read your letter in ten or 15 years’ time, you will see naivety in what you have written, but also things you have forgotten – and would do well to remember.

4. EAT A MEAL FROM THE WILD

It’s rewarding to put a meal together with free food. A good menu for beginners might include: stinging nettle soup (which tastes like spinach); a salad made from chicory, dandelion and sorrel (a delicious lemony herb with large light green leaves, often found on wasteland), and wild mushroom and boiled burdock root.

Good guides to gathering food from the wild include Richard Mabey’s Food For Free and John Lewis-Stempel’s The Wild Life, in which he recounts a year living entirely off things he has shot, picked or dug up.

5. RECORD THINGS THAT HAVE REALLY MADE YOU LAUGH

When we laugh, we act as if possessed: we make involuntary noises, throw back our heads or screw up our faces. A laughter diary records those moments when you are caught up in the absurdity and brilliance of life and makes good reading afterwards.

6. SWAP YOUR CDs

Make a list of all your CDs (or books or DVDs) that you don’t really want, then add your contact details and a short message.

Post copies through all the doors in your road. Anyone who wants to do a swap can post you a list of the things they no longer want. The result? You get new CDs for free – and you finally meet your neighbours!

7. WALK IN THE RAIN

Once you accept that you’ll get splashed, dripped and trickled upon, being in the rain can be very sensual. You may find the streets are deserted as humanity retreats from nothing more hostile than water. There is a new smell in the air, especially if the heavens break after a dusty day; greenery takes on a new lushness.

8. ENJOY A NINE-COURSE MEAL

You simply need eight friends. Ask each to supply food for an assigned course. Bring the whole thing together and you have a nine-course meal.

An Italian version might be: 1) appetiser; 2) soup; 3) salad; 4) antipasto (e.g. seared peppers on toasted bread); 5) pasta; 6) meat; 7) dessert: 8 ) cheese; 9) brandy and cigars.

The fact that you have to supply one of the courses means that this is not entirely free, but you would have been eating anyway!

9. EMBARRASS YOUR CHILDREN

There comes a time when children begin to be embarrassed by their parents’ behaviour.

They look at their them, and say, with distaste: ‘Dad, don’t do that.’ Well, my advice is: do that, whatever ‘that’ is. Do it more.

Become more embarrassing. Act more stupidly. Don’t hold yourself back. Fight back.

10. CONFRONT PEOPLE POLITELY

Consider a common situation in which you might need to confront someone politely. Some people don’t clean up after their dogs.

‘That’s a great dog,’ you tell them. ‘Nice-looking fellow (pat, pat). I wonder if I could just mention something – I saw he left something back there. I’m not getting on your case, it’s just that my children often come down here and sometimes step in it. I just thought I’d tell you.’
This softly-softly approach is less likely to lead to a row, and may produce a positive response.

11. BE A BOOKCROSSER

Bookcrossing is the world’s biggest free book club, with 750,000 members in around 130 countries.

The idea is to share your books with people by leaving them in public places: on the bus, on church pews or in changing rooms. Each book is first registered online. Members write the Bookcrossing ID number of the book inside it and release it into the wild.

The person who picks it up can visit the Bookcrossing site to say they’ve found it, before themselves releasing it (after reading it, obviously).

12. BE LORD FOR A DAY

This game can be played with a few friends spending an extended period of time together. Each person takes it in turn to be ‘Lord’ for the day. The others must do whatever they ask (within reason and the law of the land). The ‘Lord’ makes all decisions about where to go, what to do, etc. – with no debate.

It is difficult to imagine how liberating this is. Suddenly all arguments and negotiations over what should be done disappear.

The ’subjects’ do things they would never normally do, and may end up being pleasantly surprised at how much they enjoy them. As an experiment in practical psychology, it can’t be beaten.

13. CLIMB A MOUNTAIN

THIS is one of the most thrilling things you can do. When you reach the summit and look down from the peak, high above the clouds, we sense man’s power, our capacity for endurance, and feel life surging fully within us.

14. CHERISH SOLITUDE

Solitude isn’t the same as loneliness – a person can be lonely in a crowd. If you are comfortable with solitude then you can learn to listen to your innermost thoughts. Byron said that it is in solitude that we are least alone.

15. SWIM IN THE SEA

The freedom from gravity among the waves and tides is an elemental experience. Also, in the sea there’s enough room to swim without constantly looking to see if you are about to crash into someone or something. Do take care though: check weather reports, beware of the tides and be careful of sunburn in hot weather and hypothermia in cold.

During the intermission of FYP, I had some time to squeeze to play Devil May Cry 4.

Basically, the story is about some white haired guy who doesn’t know how he got a demon arm and some random monsters comes chasing him to kill him. And he kills them, blah, blah, find the reason for the rise of monsters, found out that his organization is behind it blah, blah and saves the world.

There, as simple as that. =x
